The vehicle height sensor (also known as the body height sensor or car height sensor) is used to measure in real time the relative displacement between the body and the lower control arm/shock absorber lower bracket of the suspension, which is referred to as 'body height'. It converts the up and down movement of the suspension into an electrical signal and sends it to the ECU.

The ECU then adjusts based on this signal:

• Regulating the inflation volume of air springs or the damping/stiffness of active suspensions to maintain body level;
• Automatically correcting the headlight illumination angle to avoid glare from oncoming vehicles;
• Providing reference for the center of gravity height and attitude for ADAS, ESC and other systems to improve braking and handling stability.

 
Common Faults and Symptoms:

• Sensor linkage detachment or loose ball joint → Instrument reports 'Suspension System Failure', uneven left and right body height;
• Shade plate dust obstruction (photoelectric type) → Signal loss, headlight illumination too high or dim;
• Magnet demagnetization/Hall chip damage → Output voltage locked, air suspension unable to inflate;
• Plug water ingress and rust → Signal drift, headlight frequent up and down movement at night.
