The high pressure fuel pump (High Pressure Fuel Pump, abbreviated as HPFP) is a key component in the fuel system of modern automobiles, especially applicable to engines using gasoline direct injection (GDI) technology. Its main function is to suck fuel from the low-pressure fuel circuit, pressurize it to 1000–2000 bar, and then deliver it to the injectors through the high-pressure common rail system, achieving fine atomization and efficient combustion of fuel.

The working process of a high-pressure fuel pump usually includes three stages:

• Suction stage: The plunger moves downward, the inlet valve opens, and fuel is sucked into the pump chamber.
• Return oil stage: To control the actual fuel supply, part of the fuel is pressed back to the low-pressure end.
• Pumping stage: The plunger moves upward, the inlet valve closes, and the fuel is pressurized and sent into the high-pressure common rail through the outlet valve.
