The expansion tank overflow pipe connects to the expansion tank, serving as a conduit to guide and discharge excess coolant or release surplus pressure within the system.

Primary Functions:

1. Pressure Relief: When cooling system pressure becomes excessive, it works in conjunction with the radiator cap pressure relief valve to expel surplus coolant vapour or liquid, safeguarding system integrity.

2. Excess Fluid Drainage: During overfilling or abnormal expansion of coolant, directs surplus fluid to a safe location beneath the vehicle, preventing direct leakage into the engine compartment.

Ensure the coolant level in the expansion tank remains between the ‘MIN’ (minimum) and “MAX” (maximum) markings -2-9. An insufficient level may allow air ingress into the circulation system, causing ‘air lock’ which impairs heat dissipation and raises engine temperature. Conversely, an excessive level reduces essential thermal expansion space, increases system pressure, causes the overflow pipe to operate more frequently, and may even lead to failure.
